Mater Foundation

Winner of the 2019 Special Events category, over $5 million

Campaign: 2018 RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run

What does winning this award mean for your organisation?
Mater Foundation was delighted to receive the FIA National Award for Excellence in Fundraising in the Special Events category for the 2018 RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run. This sector recognition for excellence in fundraising enabled the Foundation to highlight the work that we do in the community to Board, corporate partners and our stakeholders. Furthermore the award was recognition for the staff and suppliers who have worked on this event over many years, especially since we have received the same award for this event previously.

Briefly tell us about the campaign that won you this award? What made this campaign so successful?
RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run  is Brisbane’s biggest celebration of women and raised $700 000 for vital support services and life-saving breast cancer research at Mater so no one goes through breast cancer alone.  The 2018 event has been the most successful campaign in the events history seeing 13 200 men and women join together in the fight against breast cancer and transformed South Bank into a sea of pink. Since 2016 event participation has grown 32%.

What advice or suggestions can you give to other members considering submitting an awards nomination?
I would highly recommend submitting an entry to the FIA National Award for Excellence for a campaign that your organisation believes has seen significant growth or is best practice. The application process is straightforward and in itself provides an opportunity to analyse the factors that lead to success. Submitting an application is also recognition that the organisation believes in the work done by its team.
