NSW – A Deep Dive into FIA NSW Award Winners: Cancer Council and Bears of Hope
FIA NSW are very excited to showcase some NSW winners of the FIA Awards for Excellence in Fundraising. Come along to learn more about these award-winning campaigns.
We’ll hear from Cancer Council about their campaign, The Longest Day, which was one of two winners in the Impact Through Events category:
A few years ago, Cancer Council started to experience a flattening in growth across their events portfolio. They realised the landscape was starting to shift and the sector was feeling bombarded with many similar events. They looked for ways to diversify their supporter base by connecting with new audiences who are passionate and engaged. The Cancer Council team realised there was a gap in the market for golfers to participate in a fundraising challenge event designed for them – and they’re competitive by nature!
In year one, they trialled the event and 40 players registered and raised an incredible $40,000. After tweaking their strategy, improving their marketing plans, developing relationships with local golf clubs, and hearing feedback from the golfers themselves, the 2020 campaign raised an incredible $1.5million! This is an impressive ROI of 17:1!
We’ll also hear from Bears of Hope, who won the Impact on a Shoestring Budget category for their event Choosing Hope:
Before COVID-19 in 2020, Bears of Hope had planned seven in-person Choosing Hope Walks across Australia. By July, they had to rethink how this event would continue in the ‘new normal’. They embraced virtual walks and created Choosing Hope Walk Your Way. It was the most successful and inclusive Choosing Hope campaign yet.
In 2019, the 4 Choosing Hope Walks raised a total of $35,00 and in 2020 they hoped to raise $50k. Within weeks of launching in 2020, they had already raised $30k and shortly thereafter reached their $50k target! After 8 weeks of encouraging their dedicated fundraisers, Choosing Hope raised a total of $129,000. They exceeded their original target by 158%!
Learn how they did it.
Your ticket includes coffee, tea and a light breakfast.
