Nurturing a Culture of Fundraising 

Course Overview

Helping fundraising leaders to master cultural influence, so they can convert a disabling culture into one where their strategic choices and team members thrive.

Strategy is important. But a powerful and empowering culture is a surer pathway to success. This session will provide senior fundraisers with insights into navigating their team or department through the complexities of modern not-for-profit organisations so that their work becomes more effective, and their job more satisfying.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session, you will:

– develop a clear understanding of the importance of addressing the phenomena of organisational culture that inhibit fundraising. 

– gain an appreciation of the techniques that work to diagnose, expose and address issues.

– secure confidence on what priorities for change management should be.

Problem-solving issues that run so deep that they require consultative support and/or lengthier coaching.

Fundraising Directors or those wishing to enter into that level within the next 12 months.

Key topics

– Examples of when it becomes evident that an organisation’s culture is not supportive of fundraising.

– Stories that reveal that whilst many of these may seem outside of a fundraiser’s control – they can be influenced.

– A framework for identifying the type of cultural barriers at play.

– Practical tips for how to overcome those barriers to develop a culture that is more supportive of good fundraising.

Meet the presenter

John Burns FFIA

For over two decades John has been leading fundraising teams at Amnesty International Australia, Médecins Sans Frontières Australia, Bush Heritage Australia and most recently Plan International Australia. At each organisation he has successfully built sustainable income growth across multiple streams of income. He has a breadth of experience mentoring fundraising managers to become leaders, and convincing Boards to empower their organisations to test, learn and optimise their strategies.  John is a recognisable leader and contributor to many cross-sector collaborations including Emergency Action Alliance, Public Fundraising Regulatory Association and The Benchmarking Project.
