As the peak body representing professional fundraising in Australia, FIA is committed to supporting fundraising professionals. The Research Centre is proudly provided in partnership with More Strategic, Australia’s leading fundraising, research and experience management consultancy. We also work closely with professional fundraisers, tertiary institutions, other representative bodies and Member organisations to provide research on various aspects of fundraising that advance professional fundraising and best practice in Australia.

Members have access to research developed by our research partner, More Strategic and other researchers all helping to better understand our sector. This knowledge and understanding will help guide planning and decision making in fundraising. 


Public Attitudes Survey Part II | Can we Double Giving?

In response to the Productivity Commission’s Philanthropy Inquiry, where the aim is to double giving, More Strategic have taken the first crucial steps to uncover the messages that resonate most with the public.  A webinar was hosted in July this year to cover:

  • How donor beliefs have changed
  • The drivers of giving intention
  • Shifts in how not-for-profits are trusted and perceived
  • Changes in the causes people support and concerns they hold
  • Public views on issues such as cheques, data management and privacy
  • Donor Confidence and Digital Engagement Indexes

More Strategic conduct annual surveys on public donating behaviours and intentions. The outcomes of a survey on the Cost of Living and Giving were presented in a webinar earlier this year.

The Next Generation of Supporters | Money and Meaning

More Strategic is conducting ongoing research on The Next Generation of Supporters. They have just released the first of seven publications exploring in great depth, the lives of Young People and how they think, feel and behave towards causes and giving.

Peer to Peer Giving Motivations

by Tanya Carlyle, Sessional Academic (Marketing) | PhD Candidate  Newcastle Business School. Surveys and interviews and data collection have been completed.

Findings will be shared with the membership in the first quarter of 2024. 

Effective fundraising in Australia

Dr Cassandra Chapman at the University of Queensland, in collaboration with Fundraising Institute Australia is conducting research to identify elements of effective direct marketing appeals across the sector and listen to fundraisers’ perspectives about effective fundraising practice.

The survey has now closed and findings will be shared in 2024.
