The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) website contains factsheets outlining the requirements for each state.

On 1 July 2015, NSW Fair Trading assumed responsibility for administering the Charitable Fundraising Act 1991, which outlines how an organisation can legally undertake charitable fundraising activities.

Many organisations conduct fundraising appeals in order to finance their charitable activities. The NSW Fair Trading website provides information for organisations and charities conducting fundraising. If your organisation intends to fundraise for charitable purposes, it must hold an authority to fundraise.
