Navigating the Fundraising Regulatory Environment

Course Overview

The aim of this course is to enable fundraisers to understand the regulatory environment in which they operate and to meet all regulatory requirements at state and federal levels that are relevant to fundraising activities. You will learn to differentiate between legal and ethical responsibilities to build best-practice fundraising programs and activities. This course also provides guidelines for developing an effective compliance program for your charity. 

What you’ll learn 

  • Understand the Australian regulatory environment for fundraising 
  • Differentiate and understand various state fundraising requirements for licensing, financial reporting and record-keeping 
  • How Australian Consumer Law applies to fundraising 
  • The importance of proper data management and donor privacy with respect to relevant privacy laws 
  • Fundamental ethical fundraising principles and apply these to fundraising practice.

Heiko has extensive experience in developing and executing strategic marketing, major gifts fundraising and corporate partnership programs. He has previously worked across health, medical research, educational, community, and charitable organisations throughout Australia. Heiko holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance Investment and a Graduate Certificate in Social Impact. Heiko has been a Fellow of the Fundraising Institute Australia and has represented Western Australia on the State Committee since 2010.
