Course Overview
This is an opportunity to transform your capacity to innovate. This highly interactive workshop will go from theory to practice in action. Using human-centered design approaches, we will work through from clarifying your most significant strategic challenges to a practical process to create new donor insight-driven fundraising products. I’d like you to bring your present challenges, and this session will lead you through the process to develop, test and refine solutions with the best chance of success. The aim is to give you the capability and tools to implement what you learn the following week.
Prerequisite:
- None – just a challenge to solve!
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, you will:
- Learn the principles AND Have the tools and resources to develop ideas, build concepts and deliver more excellent consumer-led results next week

- Identify the biggest business challenges
- Create your strategic approach
- Nurture a culture of innovation – getting everyone involved in as agile a way as possible
- Drive implementation of new products from concepts to market through refinements, test and trial
Providing tools to:
- Audit your organisation and identity its strengths and weaknesses
- Put donor insight at the core of the process
- Hold creative sessions for results
This workshop is suited for fundraisers within any area at any level, or team size.
What the session won’t cover:
Every single aspect of a BIG process in huge detail – we will focus on the areas that are most likely to deliver results based on solving the actual challenges you bring.

Gavin is an experienced strategic consultant and social researcher with a broad range of experience from an extensive career in the Australian and UK not-for-profit sector. He advises charities, non-profits, and social businesses around innovation, collaborative working, agility, brand marketing, and behaviour change – driving the resulting organisational change required to integrate new approaches. He works with Boards and senior leadership teams whilst also being able to directly support functional team members at the same time. Gavin uses his experience in communications and marketing to support organisations who want to create social change or re-organise capabilities. His 25 years in the charity sector builds on his commercial marketing and advertising experience and he has been lucky enough to work in some great mission led organisations during that career. In his last charity role; Gavin was Development Director at Cancer Research UK – Britain’s largest charity – responsible for Innovation and Brand management. At CRUK he was responsible for leading a program to foster a ‘Culture of Innovation’ amongst the 1,500 employees in Fundraising & Marketing. From this he learned a huge amount about the organisational requirements for Innovation and the challenges of culture change. Gavin is a Hub Chair with the NonProfit Alliance and has presented on Innovation strategy and Change leadership at the International Fundraising Conference in Holland in 2006, 2011, 2013 then in 2017 and 2019 as part of the Innovation Camp. He has also presented on innovation at the Australian and New Zealand Fundraising Conferences as well as an F&P Forum Masterclass. |
